TREVOR PAGLEN

LE MOIS DE LA PHOTO À MONTRÉAL

7 SEPTEMBER - 9 NOVEMBER, 2013

STATEMENT

SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art and Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal present the exhibition Trevor Paglen. In addition to being part of the 13th edition of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, this exhibition is presented within the framework of SBC's Focus Program on sovereignty.

For its 13th edition, Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal has invited renowned British curator Paul Wombell to develop an exhibition program around his theme, Drone: The Automated Image. From September 5 to October 5, 2013, 25 exhibitions deployed in different sites will transform the city into a vast yet coherent photography exhibition. This event will chart the changing relationship between the camera and the human body.

Trevor Paglen is internationally known for his extensive research on the clandestine activities of the United States military. His work deliberately blurs the boundaries between science, art and journalism. In his photographic works, Paglen investigated the use of drones and how the American landscape has been invaded by military technology, thus redefining the aesthetics of the sublime

Born in 1974 in Maryland, Trevor Paglen lives and works in New York. He holds an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and a PhD in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley. He was awarded the Aperture West Prize (2008) and presented his work at the New Museum in New York (2010) and the Tate Modern in London (2010).
