Curatorial workshop

January to March 2016

This winter join SBC and a small group of peers for an 8-week curatorial workshop that will address the complexities of presenting socially engaged practices in/with arts institutions.

The workshop will explore case studies of historical and contemporary exhibitions, publications/catalogues and other cultural and political events. Participants will work together in analysing the particular challenges that emerge for artists, activists, curators and institutions in presenting politically engaged, process-based practices that are often collaborative and/or community based, and committed to a broad range of political and social justice concerns.

Please expect some reading of texts in preparation for each session and some research to be conducted by each participant. As the group will be small, participants will be requested to attend all 8 sessions.

The workshops will be led by SBC Director/Curator Pip Day and invited guests, and will take place on Tuesdays between January 12 and March 8, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Workshops will be conducted bilingually, moving between English and French.

Please send a 1-2 page letter describing your interest in participating in the workshops prior to November 20 to: info@sbcgallery.ca

We’ll get back to you by December 4. Due to the size of the group, we may not be able to include everyone, but we will build the group based on shared interests/concerns that emerge in your letters of interest.
