+ ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

As part of the public program of the exhibition NOUS/OTRXS, artist Martín Rodríguez will be joined by Carlos Rojas-Salazar (co-founder and director of Conseil Migrant) and Mostafa Henaway (organizer at the Immigrant Workers Centre) for a roundtable on migrant labor in Quebec.

Together, they will reflect on the realities faced by undocumented and temporary workers, connecting personal, political, and historical perspectives on migration, labor, and resistance across borders.

ABOUT CARLOS ROJAS

Carlos Rojas-Salazar, a “full-time migrant” originally from Mexico, is a professional in migration, international affairs, and international development. He has been defending migrants’ rights for over 25 years. Multicultural and trilingual, a true North American, he brings a wide-ranging experience as an entrepreneur, diplomat, academic, and activist.

He has led humanitarian interventions with migrant caravans in Mexico, conducted research on migration and diaspora integration, and worked to improve access to health care for asylum seekers, people with precarious status, and temporary foreign workers across North America.

As a consultant for the Université de Montréal, he contributed to the WeFeedYOU project (nutrition for foreign workers) and CLIMPACT (the effects of climate change on migrant workers). An international speaker — including at the Mexican Congress, the Catholic University of Louvain, and the University of Thessaloniki in Volos — he has collaborated with organizations such as BINAM, INSPQ, and REAC-UdeM. A prolific author, he regularly publishes articles, op-eds, and essays in three languages.

Today, he is president of Conseil Migrant and secretary-treasurer of DTMF, which advocates, among other issues, for the abolition of closed work permits. Outside his professional commitments, he enjoys canoeing, sailing, camping, and winter cycling.

ABOUT MOSTAFA HENAWAY

Mostafa Henaway, a Canadian-born Egyptian, is a long-time community organizer at the Immigrant Workers Centre in Montreal, where he has been organizing for justice for immigrant/migrant workers for over two decades. He is also a researcher and PhD candidate at Concordia University
