INFORMATION

Listening inwardly to our deepest questions is a way to train ourselves to listen to others. At the same time, we live in a time in which technology seems available to answer all our questions, even the most superfluous. Even more so with the rise of artificial intelligence. What if we could alter those known relations and find a way through technology our ancestral ability to invoke the numinous* and to listen to our interior by interpreting its responses.

Through Listen to the oracle artist Maria Paula Lonegro invites the public to a one-on-one performance where they are invited to explore their most profound questions. She evokes mediums, clairvoyants and fortune-tellers to co-create, alongside her own technological oracle, an answer that invites participants to explore their inner selves by interpreting the sound of their answers.

*The sacred as a sensitive experience elusive by rational means. The numinous generates both terror and fascination. Word coined by philosopher and historian of religion Rudolf Otto (1869-1937), translated from the German (das) Numinose, "(the) sacred", itself derived from the Latin numen, "active power of divinity". Dictionary of the French Academy.
