“Observations is an exhibition on the scope of vision and various forms of introspection. The concept of observation is addressed in this exhibition from a perspective of movement: the movement of gaze, of thought, of memory, of body, and of reality. The exhibition focuses on works by artists absorbed by the transformation of an image, whether triggered by a memory, emotion, experience, place, intimate or personal object, or familiar landscape. Bringing together videographic and kinetic works, Observations takes an indirect approach to drawing and the pictorial codes of portrait, still life and landscape genres, without neglecting the role played by sound and silence.” -Nicole Gingras
Parallel to the exhibition, on Thursday, November 6, at 12:30 p.m., van Breest / Smallenburg will discuss her practice as part of the ICI conference program (Intervenants culturels internationaux) at École des arts visuels et médiatiques of the Université du Québec à Montréal, Room RM-130.
The public will also have a chance to meet Olivia Boudreau, Jean-Pierre Gauthier and Nicole Gingras at the SBC Gallery on Saturday, December 6, at 3:00 p.m.
