Born in Rigolet, NL and currently based in Montreal, QC, Jason Sikoak centers their artistic practice on creating a dialogue of learning for both themselves and the viewer. Sikoak uses a wide range of media, such as images digitally rendered in pen and ink, as well as stone, bone, and antler. Through these mediums they share Inuit tales that represent a flow of generational knowledge across Canada and through  Indigenous peoples. Their work uses dynamic imagery to investigate identity and the environment, positioning coastal sites and storytelling as liminal spaces for a larger conversation regarding land and history. Sikoak is currently pursuing their Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University; their entry into an academic institution is an integral point in their journey which has led them to experiment with new materials and techniques. Their work is included in La  Guilde’s 2019 exhibition Nunatsiavut: Our Beautiful Land, and in the travelling exhibition  SakKijâjuk: Art and Craft from Nunatsiavut.
