Seances for the Living is an experiment in collaborative art making that tends to the earth. Its method can be sensed through one question: how do we respond to the call of the ancestors and universes that we know in the feeling and make our lives possible? Seances for the Living is an invitation to read the elements and spiritual forces that compose us, and to imagine alternative cartographies and itineraries by drawing lines beyond the frontiers of language.
Bringing together five artists and their different lineages and ritual practices, the project proposes a series of seances that relay one another, as each artist takes turns as caretakers of a life that transcends the interests of the mortal. Seances for the Living is a process and a pretext to gather our forces in the various practices of listening, while carving a space for trying out things, undoing habits, and allowing vulnerability. Syncretic, improvisational, and open-ended, the project lingers through traces that generate another mode of presentation, one that preserves contact and conviviality, and allows for future ceremonies.
