Talk with Paul Leong & Pip Day

Presented in collaboration with La Biennale de Montréal as part of BNLMTL 2014, L'avenir (looking forward).

Swedish artist duo Goldin+Senneby approached investment banker Paul Leong for consultation in developing the algorithm they have used to inform “M&A” - a  collaborative work of art activated and consequently de-activated by fluctuations in the stock market. In the context of their exhibition at SBC,  and in collaboration with the BNLMTL 2014, L’avenir (looking forward),  Goldin+Senneby have invited Paul Leong to speak with SBC Director and Curator, Pip Day, on subjects of speculation, notions of risk,  and the relationship between art and finance.

Paul Leong is a Senior Vice President in the real estate group of Macquarie Capital, a leading global banking and financial services group. Previous to joining Macquarie in 2014, Mr. Leong worked for over 6 years in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Blackstone, a premier global investment and advisory firm in New York, primarily focused on the real estate and business services sectors. Leong received an MBA from Columbia Business School where he graduated with honors and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. He also graduated with honors from Columbia University with a BS in Engineering Management Systems and a BA in Economics.

Paul leong  has been an art lover for many years and has actively been collecting contemporary and emerging artists since he was intrigued by a Scott Lyall painting during Art Basel Miami. Today, he continues to be an avid collector of works by artists including Ryan Gander, Liz Deschenes, Matias Faldbakken, Cheyney Thompson, Klara Liden, Lutz Bacher, Heimo Zobernig, Mathieu Malouf, and many, many more. He is a member of the Contemporary Art Council (“CAC”) of MoMA and sits on the CAC’s acquisition committee.
