SUPPORT SBC

SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art is a non-profit arts organization that offers a diverse program in visual and media arts and culture. SBC’s mandate is to educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through exhibitions and presentations involving local, national and international cultural practitioners, and through publications, educational activities, public lectures and artist talks. SBC seeks to expand the concept of contemporary culture to the many veins that traverse its landscape, whether artistic, social or intercultural. SBC places an emphasis on research, exhibition curatorship, exhibitions, and printed and electronic publications. The diverse programs generated by SBC foster exchanges and interactions with various artistic organizations, cultural producers, artists and the public.

 

SBC is currently looking for an intern interested in developing competencies in the following areas:

 

  • Exhibition coordination: Working with the Exhibition Coordinator on research, special events and other exhibition-related activities.

  • Administration: Working with administrative staff on marketing and fundraising activities

  • Education: Working with the Education Project Manager on implementing the new educational policy for SBC and organizing an educational project for the 2015-2016 year.  Working with the Director and Curator on developing the curatorial and critical writing workshops, as well as researching for the 2015-2016 At Home with Art and Art Tour programs.

  • Interaction with the public: understand the issues related to the exhibition to be able to welcome visitors and answer questions.

 

The skills required:

·       The candidate should have experience in arts education, art history, or museology, should be particularly interested in cultural mediation, and has preferably obtained a graduate degree in one of these fields.

·       He/she should be able to express himself/herself in French and in English. He/she enjoys working in a team, has the time management skills necessary in order to keep to the project’s schedule, and is autonomous.

·       He/she is dynamic, has great organizational skills, and has the ability to work with multiple partners.
 

Internship period: January to July, 2015
30 hours a week – schedule TBD
Duration of the contract: 21 weeks
Hourly rate: $15.90/hour

 

The candidate must meet the criteria of DÉMART - MTL (professional artists; from a culturally diverse background, a newcomer (5 years or less) or first- generation; a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, and a resident of Greater Montreal; resident in the Greater Montreal area; self-employed worker paid in professional fees or honorariums).
